The ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005PE-PU17BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook I ordered from Amazon 2 months ago arrived with lightening-like speed and in perfect condition. I unpacked it at lunch time, plugged it in and waited a day and a half to power it up for the first time. It works great. Windows 7 (Starter Edition) is a breeze to operate. (No need to upgrade – the Starter Edition does everything I expected it to.) In no time, I was hooked up to my home wifi and surfing the internet. It was just as easy to use the separate CD reader I purchased (also from Amazon) to load a program I had on CD. (I chose a CD reader only – very inexpensive) I loaded another important program over my wifi with no problem. The keyboard is almost full-size and has a good feel to it. The touch-pad mouse took just a little time to get used to, but is now like second nature to me. I did not buy the extra memory and probably won’t. This little netbook runs great for internet use and for word processing just the way it is. I’ve had only one frustration so far – I’m having a problem with my free trial of Microsoft Office Home Edition. I can’t find an unlock code and Microsoft wants me to download a whole new program to do a much shorter trial. I bought a memory-foam case with separte pouch for the transformer/plug. The whole outfit weighs less than 3 pounds! Now that’s portability!! I’ve saved the best for last – the battery really does last 14 hours!!! As I mentioned before, my use is mostly word processing. It takes several full evenings of use to run the battery down.

In summary, it works great right out of the box. Portable, super-long battery life, good keyboard and mouse, and speedy. Even Windows 7 Starter is a winner!

Hi,

The cons: slow with Window$; low RAM memory; weak materials (scratched out of the box); not assembled properly (keyboard was not even, a section was lowed in depth than the rest of the keys.

The pros: just get a case to protect it. they are cheap and colorful as well (see iPerl mCover); I changed the RAM card by a 2GB and it works as a charm; finally, got rid of the pre-installed Window$ and installed linux. I use OpenSuSe 11.2 and the little friend became so fast and reliable. Only the multi-touch feature of the mouse has not being ported to linux yet (at least the version I have). I never again used my huge old notebook. This netbook from ASUS is a great choice. There are several netbooks in the marked, making as low in power as small in size devices. This is not the case with this model of ASUS. This is a powerful notebook, that improves when using it with linux, and its battery last for more than 10 hours.

I recommend this device for any student, or frequent traveler. I use it on my sailboat as well, saving a lot of space and energy.

I’ve been looking for a new computer for a while as my old laptop has slowly but surely ran out of usable life. I purchased a netbook because I realized that I don’t often use my computer for much other than the internet and some real basic functions. I think that’s because my old laptop got slower and slower so I just got used to not using it for much.

I can’t really comment on the reliability of the machine as I’ve only had mine for a few weeks, but I have had no problems with it so far. I’ve travelled a couple times with it and never had a problem connecting to other networks. Also, the keyboard is a little cramped, but it hasn’t been too much of an issue for me. Sometimes it does feel awkward going back to my work laptop that has a full size keyboard…

I feel like battery life was a key marketing point for this model and I will comment that I’ve found if all you do is surf the internet and put the machine on it’s power saving energy mode, mine does last the 14 hours that is advertised, even on a wireless network. So I’m happy to leave positive feedback there.

Overall, I don’t really have any issues with the machine. Sometimes it does bog down when I’m using Skype and trying to surf the internet at the same time. I also haven’t installed the extra gig of memory and I’m also not sure if it is the wireless connection’s fault or if it’s the computer’s fault, but I’m told that my video tends to freeze when I open the internet while video chatting with someone on Skype. Like I said though, this could be the internet connection’s fault (bandwidth issues?) or it could be that the netbook just doesn’t have the power. I’m not exactly a computer guy so I’m not really qualified to accurately diagnose the problem…

Overall though, I’ve been very satisfied.

“Hardware Good, Software Bad” 2010-02-28

I’ll keep this brief. The 1005PE is one damn quick netbook. Running either Windows 7 or Snow Leopard, it boots and runs apps much faster than I would have expected (I upgraded the RAM to 2GB). I was always skeptical about how capable netbooks were, and this one delivers big time.

Windows 7 Starter sucks; it’s pretty well known. This isn’t my complaint. The recovery disc that comes with the unit forces you to install all the proprietary garbage software from ASUS and third parties when you try to clean install the OS from the OEM disc. It’s ironic, because while it’s installing, there are check boxes next to the extra software, but you can’t uncheck them. If you cancel the install during this part, Windows states it has not been installed properly, even though it’s already installed on the system.

This is a huge disappointment, as it takes quite some time to uproot the crap that ASUS installs. My recommendation: buy this netbook with a copy of Windows Home Premium, the do a clean install from the Home disc. The Anytime Upgrade key doesn’t work unless you install from the ASUS W7 Starter recovery disk first. Pretty shady that companies are allowed to force you to install extra software. Oh well.

I have only had this netbook for a few days but so far I am very happy with it. Amazon delivered it much faster than I was expecting as I chose the free shipping option. Pros.: I really like the keyboard.

The sound is good for a netbook,

The white color looks great,

Long battery life,

Easy to set up and to use,

I like the fast start option with Expressgate,

It stays cool and is very quiet.

Cons.: I find the silver clicker a bit stiff and would prefer two separate buttons.

Glossy case, the blue and black colors especially, I chose the white hoping it would’nt show fingerprints so much and I’m glad I did, the white does not show fingerprints as much as the others and it looks classy.

This is my first netbook and I am very happy with it so far and I am glad I chose this Asus over the other netbooks I considered(the new Samsung, battery not so good at under 7 hours, and the new Toshiba netbook, too expensive for my budget at almost $400) For someone new to netbooks as I am and as an inexperienced computer user this netbook was a good choice for me.

Update: This product contains a low z sound from the processor. I referred to two friends who also bought it, all three has a low clicking sound coming out of the processor. It’s very quiet but kind of annoying. Other than that I would’ve to say this is the best Net-book for the price on the market today!

I got my netbook yesterday and my initial reaction was holy **** this netbook looks good! Charged for about *>12HOURS<* IT IS VERY IMPORTANT GUYS. The initial battery life actually started out with 12hours which is amazing. Key board take some time getting use to but it’s decent and solid. Touch pad is way better than most of the brand’s. Screen can adjust from very bright to deem. Just when I was amazed with tiny little thing… Then I notice something… A low tone clicking z sound coming out from inside the net-book, at this point I was like why!?!!? I really want to keep the net-book.

Called Asus they were nice about everything but after some long hold they told me I have to pay for ONE WAY SHIPPING in order to exchange it. WTHECK? I asked the person… You guys sell me a defect product and I have to pay to return it?? Anyways, I was about to send them to BBB, and that is when Amazon saved their ass.

Filled out one of those exchange fourms on Amazon. Then called Amazon’s customer service. This is what I experience from Amazon:

Sir you’ll receive the new one tomorrow.(I literally froze… U mean u are not going to ship it tomorrow but instead I am going to receive it tomorrow?) Yes sir. And just return the original with the prepaid UPS label the UPS man give you. Here is the local UPS #, you can schedule a pick up with them at your convenience. Amazing service from Amazon. I will never shop online at anywhere else. Thank you guys.

I got my ASUS EEE 1005PE a week ago. I’m impressed. I did upgrade the RAM to 2GB and the OS to Windows 7 Home Premium, but this netbook worked as promised out of the box. Thanks to the reviewers who did such a great job accurately reflecting the quality of this product.

The display is crisp. Sometimes glare is a problem under some conditions. The processor is fast for such a small machine. I notice that, although the machine boots quickly, it does take a little while for it to stabilize which makes the computer a little slow for the first few minutes. Not a big deal.

The only complaint I have is the keyboard. The right shift key is half-size. I continually miss it. I’m hoping that practice makes perfect.

Great machine, great battery life, beautiful and readable display, great value for the money; but mediocre keyboarding experience. I’d say I made a fantastic find with this one.

OMG I would be saying this, but this is THE CHEAPEST, BIGGEST PIECE OF JUNK I have ever bought. I already owned the LapCool2, but since I dropped it once and the blades on the fans broke, it became very noisy, so I came online and looked for a replacement. I was very happy to see that a newer model had come out, and at a cheaper price even, but BOY, did that lower price come at a cost! No more 4-port USB hub, no more aluminum cooling plate, no more nice reclining footies or flip-out footies to help machine get more ventilation. If I had got it myself, I’d have sent it back immediately as a misrepresentation, but unfortunately I had someone bring it to Mexico for me since I couldn’t come to the USA to get it myself. I will NEVER again buy something just trusting on brand credibility or experience with previous products.

This product is thin, but does not generate much air flow. I like that the air intake is in the back instead of on the bottom like earlier models, but the plastic housing is so thin that it can be pushed into the fan blades.

Great fan. It’s really quiet!! Unlike my built-in fan within my laptop. If the fan runs for a while, my computer will rarely turn on its own fan which is nice since that one is noisy and worthless after 2 years of owning my laptop.

Lightweight, super easy to use (just plug it in), perfect size for my ~15″ screen laptop. Even has soft pegs on the top of the board so the laptop is lifted a cm above the fans.

I recommend it if your laptop overheats – my pc never gets hot now and before it would overheat and crash if I ran too many programs/movies/games.

I’ve had this for about two months now and I bought this together with Onkyo ht-s7200, briteview cinematube, and a sauder wall mount furniture. I also bought an inexpensive cheetah wallmount which I used to mount this to the sauder furniture. At first, I felt the TV was too big, I got a bit nauseous staring at it but I found out that it was just too bright. So after a couple of adjustments, it was easy to look at.

The TV is not really 240hz, the software only projects a 240hz but still the picture clarity is very good. Rated high in consumer reviews so I am glad I bought this one. The only thing I wish it had is an automatic picture adjustment to that if scene is in 4:3 it would automatically adjust to 16:9. There are a lot of features which I don’t really use that much. Viewing angle is ok although it reflects some image from my window.

It’s a perfect blend to my new Onkyo home theater. I enjoy watching movies again.

Toshiba REGZA 55ZV65OU is a very good 55 inch LCD 1080P HDTV.It has clearscan 240. My wife told me to buy it, because my old Toshiba 44 inch HDTV was so bulky. This will be wall-mounted. The pictures are great, sound is good, and it’s easy to set up. The sharpness is good, even at an angle. My dogs brains’ can process the pictures at 1080P. The first week, they would bark at the intruders on the screen and look behind the set to see what was going on. Sometimes they sit on the couch with me to watch TV. I would buy it again. It came quickly, undamaged, with a minimum of fuss from Amazon. No taxes or shipping fees made it an even better deal.

I would say that I am very much satisfied of the tv that I purchased ! It was amazing!! I loved watching how clear it is watching the shows especially with HD in it. I bought this for my husband’s christmas present and he just loved it. It looks really great in our family room and my kids loved it as well. As for the price, this was the best deal I’ve ever found. I have been comparing prices, size, and other things that’s in it, so far elsewhere is more expensive. Service is very quick. I received the tv 5 days from the day that I purchased. I was looking for an LCD tv that I could use in our kitchen that had a DVD player built in. There were plenty of larger tvs available, but I wanted something in the 15 inch range. This one fit the bill nicely. I’ve had it for about 3 months now.

Pros:

Small tv fits perfectly in the corner of our counter

Auto-search feature for channels found all of our digital and HD channels with no problem

The picture is very clear, and colors are very deep

The sound is loud enough that I can hear it in the other room and over kitchen appliances

DVD player built in, so no extra counter space is wasted.

Cons:

Can’t wall mount

Channel tuning is VERY slow. Extremely painful just trying to “surf” to find something to watch.

Overall, this is a great value, and recommended to all. The two cons above are what moved the 5 star rating to a 4.

We replaced our digital tuner / non-HD Polaroid 15″ television in our kitchen, with this HDTV/DVD combo unit. We are VERY pleased with the purchase and feel the value for the $$’s was well worth the upgrade! The TV fits perfectly on a small lazy susan situated on a counter top under a set of our kitchen cabinets. The lower profile, due to it’s wide-screen design, allows a better fit in this application versus the replaced Polaroid. Of the other units we researched, this one came highly rated for it’s sound quality versus similar sized TV’s. After watching it for a couple of months, we see why. The sound quality is equal to our larger 36″ and 42″ HDTVs. The reaction time to receive a picture when first turning on the unit, is a little slow, but not unlike other HDTV’s we have. The remote control features are well designed and easy to access at quick glance. The integrated DVD player is very asthetically pleasing and desingned in a way that it fits into the TV cabinet without looking like an ‘add on’. The picture quality is super and agian rivals those of our larger HDTV’s. We are extremely pleased with this TV in it’s particular application and would highly recommend it to anyone considering the purchase of a screen size <20″.

This is one of very few LCD TVs that will fit under my kitchen cabinets. Picture quality (with cable TV input) is excellent. Have not really tested the tuner; the cable is there because the kitchen provides too much shielding to get much signal with an antenna. Sound quality is perfectly OK, nothing exceptional. The DVD player seemed pointless, but it has been useful on a few occasions, and it doesn’t take up much space. What I really wanted, but could not find (are you listening, Toshiba?), is a TV like this with a mount that would allow the TV to be suspended from the front edge of the cabinet underside (an under-cabinet mount different from those I could find) and, when not in use, you could pull the bottom of the TV out and then slide the whole thing under the cabinet. This would allow full use of the countertop under the cabinet when the TV is not in use.

I just got this today. BEAUTIFUL picture, but when you get it, check which picture type it is set on. I noticed that writing on screen in a newscast was blurry and couldn’t figure out why. Turns out it was on the Sports setting. Once I changed that and changed my Dish box to 720 vs 1080, everything cleared up. I can’t say enough about the picture–I replaced a Sylvania 15-inch HDTV that I’ve had for a year or so. It had a pretty lousy picture quality. Haven’t tried out the DVD player yet, but hoping it will be as good. I got a great deal (I think) at under $200. The only thing that is not perfect is that the stand–it is static and can’t be tilted back or turned side to side. But once I got the TV into a good position for viewing that wasn’t a terrible problem. The supplier sent it free 2-day shipping/no tax–although it wasn’t Amazon but a 3rd party (Electronic Express). GREAT service!! I’ll tell you that after days and days of snow and being stuck inside this TV is the best thing that has happened in days!! I did feel bad for the FedEx driver though…

Edited to add that after having used this TV for a while, I am wondering why all the comments about the sound. The sound on mine is great and can be heard easily even when the dishwasher is running. In fact, I find myself turning the sound down often. Secondly, I finally made use of the DVD player to watch Julie&Julia. EXCELLENT!! Easy to use–push a button to switch from TV to DVD, pop in the DVD and off we go. I have also found that the immobile stand is not a problem. When I need a different angle, I just turn the TV in the viewing direction. Easy as pie. I think this is one super unit all the way around and am upping my rating to 5 Stars.

Ok, so I just upgraded to the new 360 grill from my old George Foreman grill. I researched it by reading and watching others reviews which were a great help. I used mine for the first time with the old on on standby just in case. Let me start with the sticker which seemed to be a big problem for most. It wasnt an issue, just peel off slowly. I made 10 grilled chicken breasts on my new grill and 4 chicken breast took 7 minutes to cook on medium to high setting it was well worth the wait. They came out juicy and tender. The grill cooks slower than my other one due to the temp control which is a big improvement . I dont burn my chicken breasts after cooking two of them now its more like after 8; the last two were welllll done. Oh yeah I havent had an issue with the top plate falling off, but when I do I will let you know. Good luck and I am off to eat!!!!!

Have cooked (a lot) using all the plates and they all work very well.

Looked at many of the reviews before purchasing.

Several reported problems with plates falling off and/or becoming warped.

Mentioned this to my son who we purchased a 360 for XMAS He asked whether we were installing the plates correctly. He’d noticed that there was a right way and a wrong way to install the plates. I had not noticed with the exception that the some installed harder than others.

He showed me that there is a tab on the plates that only fits correctly in the larger indentation on the grill. Once I figured that out the plates fit very well. The manual doesn’t make that too obvious either. Might help other users. All you have to do is turn the plates over and look. The way they fit into the grill becomes obvious. I was kind of embarassed my kid had to show me that. My guess is that the warping of plates some users say they have problems with might be caused by installing the plates wrong too.

Ours works GREAT. Cooks pizza VERY well too.

While the 360 grill cooked a piece of meat as well as the Grilleration 5, it does not do that well with the quesadilla plates, and the cooking of a pizza is lame. I will certainly continue to use the 360 to grill meat (and it is delicious when done), but for pizza I’ll still use the oven.

This grill is easy to use. All of the plates fit perfectly–they are clearly marked. The plates are easy to clean. DO NOT USE ANY PAM OR OTHER NON-STICK SPRAYS! The spatulas are a big improvement over the original ones with curved handles. The temperature indicators are a great help telling you when the plates are hot enough to cook food. The cooking times in the book are accurate.

My husband and I love fresh ground coffee and this coffee maker definitely fits the bill. Makes a fantastic pot of coffee with Starbucks French Roast beans. We’ve only used it a week so far, but it seems to be very easy to clean. We originally bought the DGB-600BC model at Lowe’s, but while checking it out online and looking for a better price, I noticed this improved model that actually received much better reviews as far as ease of cleaning. The better price didn’t hurt either! So the other went back to Lowe’s and I ordered this one and couldn’t be more pleased.

You will love this coffee maker! This actually was not my first choice, but when I took back what I thought was top of the line (for all sorts of problems)…I bought this coffee maker because the salesperson at Bed Bath and Beyond just ranted and raved how wonderful it is. She was right…I could not be happier! I’m so glad it worked out this way. First of all, it makes really wonderful, fresh tasting coffee. What better than freshly ground and brewed coffee first thing in the morning, right?!! It is programmable, so it can be ready and waiting for you in the morning. It is easy to clean. All I do is rinse off the grinder, filter, and carafe each time. Very easy. The carafe keeps coffee piping hot for hours. I have nothing bad to say about this coffee maker. I recommend it 100%. You will love it too!

“Improved over predecessor (DGB-600BC)” 2010-02-13

This is my third Cuisinart Grind-and-Brew coffeemaker. I had two of the predecessor (DGB-600BC), first one the grinder quit working and the second one the clock quit functioning correctly so you could no longer program the coffeemaker dependably to have your coffee ready in the morning. I threw away the first one (had it for about two years) and then bought the second one. I had the second one just over a year and got smarter with this one and took it back and replaced it with this one (DGB-650BC). Yes, you would think I would have given up on this coffeemaker but despite the major problems I had with the first two I really like this coffeemaker. I love freshly brewed coffee and this is one of the few machines that grinds the beans and brews coffee. I did try the Cuisinart DGB-900BC (with the burr grinder) but I had problems keeping the burr grinder snapped into place and it kept popping up. (I tried this over a year ago so Cuisinart may have improved upon it by now.)

PROS: Easy to use, easy to program, easy to clean, coffee tastes great!

CONS: Even though Cuisinart has improved this one over its predecessor there is still the problem with condensation in the grinder after your coffee has brewed leaving cakey coffee grounds in the grinder (another reviewer mentioned this too).

If you like strong coffee (like my husband and I do) this may not be the coffeemaker for you if you drink a lot of coffee. You’re probably better off buying a burr grinder and grinding the beans yourself which I know defeats the purpose of this grind and brew machine. If you overfill the grinder with beans it will not grind properly and you will be drinking weak coffee. Fortunately, my husband drinks his coffee at work so I only make it for me on the weekday mornings and I can make a perfect 16 oz cup of strong coffee just the way I like it. That’s all I need. Weekends, it’s a little trickier as I fill the grinder as full as I can with beans (leaving some space) and my husband and I can each get a decent 16 oz cup of strong coffee too.

I gave this coffeemaker four stars because I still think Cuisinart needs to make more improvements to make this a five star coffeemaker and even though it may seem like to some it’s more trouble than it’s worth for those of us who like strong coffee, I would still go out and buy this machine again. To me, I have yet to find a coffeemaker that makes better tasting coffee than this one (that is, coffeemakers that have a grind-and-brew function). I can also make a better tasting cup of coffee from this machine than I’ve been able to find at our local coffee shops.

UPDATE: One major factor I forgot to add is that your coffee is only as good as your water and coffee beans. Since my husband and I like strong coffee we use fresh Dark French Roast or Dark Sumatra and fresh filtered water, even though this coffeemaker does have a filter. We noticed a difference in the taste of our coffee if we use tap water vs. filtered water but our tap water tastes like you’re drinking from a swimming pool so others may not have this problem.

This is a brief review for the Infinity 565 Conical Burr grinder in SS.

For the past few years I have been roasting my own coffee beans in order to get a “fresh” cup of coffee at home. A fellow “coffee snob” had mentioned to me that a regular blade grinder can actually burn the chopped up coffee beans. I did not think a burr grinder was worth the extra money since I thought I would never be able to tell the difference. WOW! Was I wrong. The coffee actually tastes better! This has been confirmed to me by folks at work, so it is not all in my head The grinds are consistent and can range from super fine to coarse. There are different types of Burr grinders but the Conical type is supposed to be the best. It was a little tricky to figure out what to set the timer in order to get enough coffee for a 12 Cup drip maker (between 5 and 6).

The first thing I noticed about the machine was its heft. The thing is SOLID and well made. I expect it to last a long time. I will not go into all the details that others have already covered, but I will say you can tell a difference and for the price Amazon has it for is a bargain.

We decided on the 565 after discovering the housing is metal vs plastic. The extra few bucks is worth it.

Its a great machine – easy to use and clean. We did research and weeded out about 6 other brands. The burr grinder is superior to blade grinders.

No surprises in the 565 performance. And its quieter then any grinder we’ve had in the past.

We expect the 565 to last a very very long time.

This processor gets used every other day on the average. It is reliable and saves me a lot of time. I’ve heard people complain about cleaning all the parts after using, but it isn’t that bad. If you can keep the unit on the counter, so much the better. My folks don’t like the way it looks, so they tuck it away in the garage. As a result, they don’t use it much. The julian strip blade is a joke; avoid buying this if possible. The french fry blade is not nessary. Just slice with wide blade turn potato 90 degrees and slice again. Enjoy!

I purchased this Cuisinart DLC-10S when replacement parts for my 10C became more expensive than purchasing a new one. The new one is BETTER in every way and the bonus is that my old discs still work but new ones are better, too. The size is perfect for me and while I don’t use it everyday I do use it at least 4 x’s per week. The ease of pastry/dough making is fantastic and vegetable processing is a real time saver. The DVD is very helpful and the recipes easy to follow and delicious.

I really like this pan. Definitely worth it, a good purchase, no buyer’s remorse. I have had it for three weeks now and have used it almost daily. It has a very large cooking surface, heats quickly, cooks evenly and cleans up easily, if you read the instructions. It’s lighter than my previous fry pans (a very old Cuisinart copper-clad and store-brand, non-stick anodized aluminum) but still sturdy with good heft. I’ve used it for simple thngs, like scrambled eggs, and more complex recipes, including a wine-and-meat pasta sauce that required cooking items separately at different temperatures, followed by a long slow simmer. It handled every challenge perfectly and cleaned up quickly. The ONLY reason I don’t give it 5 stars is the handle – it’s functional and stays cool as promised, but it doesn’t quite fit my hand. In summary, for the price – pan and lid for less than the price of the pan along – I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

My reccomendation is for anyone considering buying all clad, deffinetly do so online, but BEFORE you buy make sure to touch it in real life. I find the handle very uncompfortable (and others do as well) for any kind of extended use. I also have the same pan from Cuisinart (the multiclad) which is deffinetly heavier, and heats more evenly with food sticking less. I do have problems cooking any kind of egg-related dish in this pan. It destroys omlets at any temperature, with any lubricant (butter, oil, etc). I havent had the same issue with my multiclad.
