I’m not thrilled with this breadmaker but I am going to keep it because it does mix and knead the dough fairly well but there are problems using the automatic function.
First of all the “resting” phase at the beginning is way too long for me. When I start a batch of bread I don’t want the ingredients sitting in the pan for up to an hour before anything happens. I want it to start mixing and kneading right away.
The “automatic” yeast dispenser does not work! I followed the directions exactly and allowed the machine to go through all the cycle right up to when it should have begun baking (2 1/2 hours after loading the ingredients into the pan. The yeast never dropped into the pan. That was on the standard setting.
I tried again on the “Raisin” cycle and on the “Rapid Wheat” cycle and the yeast never dropped into the pan.
The automatic dispenser simply doesn’t work.
The dough does not mix well using the directions of which ingredients to add in which order.
I got much better results adding the liquid FIRST and then adding the dry ingredients.
Since I only want the machine for mixing dough which I will finish, shape and bake as “artisan” loaves, I don’t need the automatic functions and this machine has a paddle that is big enough to do a good job.
I have owned several other breadmakers, including a 20-year-old Zojirushi that still works, a West Bend, an Oster, a Morphy Richards, a machine with two pans and I just gave away two Breadmans (the Pro and the Ultimate) to people who needed but couldn’t afford them.
I am very experienced with bread machines and know how to get the best out of them, assuming they work the way they are supposed to.
This one does not perform up to my expectations. I certainly won’t order another.

Makes a fresh loaf perfectly. Love to wake up to the smell of fresh baked bread and the fact I know the ingredients i’m serving my family and friends. Very solid product thats so easy to operate a man can use it.

It was either going to be this Panasonic SD-YD250 Bread Maker or a Zojirushi model that was $70.00 more. Based on multiple reviews, I chose the Panasonic. I have nothing negative to say about the Zojirushi. Maybe the few extra programs justify the difference in price. However, after using the Panasonic two or three times a week for the past month, using the receipts both in the provided booklet and other bread cookbooks, I am very satisfied with my choice. It makes great bread, moist, tasty and great texture. I’ve not experienced a failure yet. This is my second machine. We bought a Wellbilt back in the early Nineties’ that produced dry, cylindrical loaves that drove us back to the store. We had heard that machines had improved greatly since then, and when a nephew in England spoke of his fresh bread from his Panasonic machine, we were inspired to try again and glad we did. Perhaps as I gain experience in making bread, I will want a machine with more bells and whistles, but for now, the Panasonic SD-YD250 meets all my needs and more.

If you have never tried a bread machine, this one is the ultimate. I purchased my first machine in 1993. I asked my husband for one for Christmas. He was very skeptical, but after we got it home, he loved it! We make all our bread out of this machine, and he won’t eat store bought bread anymore. It is very easy to use, we make pizza dough in it as well as yeast rolls, and of course sandwich bread. In 2004, the machine stopped working. We couldn’t find this model in the stores anywhere, and we tried 3 other types, but my husband had me return all of them. We went on line and found the same model and were thrilled to get it home and start making bread again.
Last year, we decided to purchase another, just to have as a spare! Best money we ever spent!
